Lumecca IPL Treatment Q&A

What is Lumecca IPL treatment?

Lumecca is an intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment that uses bright flashes of light to effectively treat skin discoloration.

What problems does Lumecca IPL treatment address?

The state-of-the-art Lumecca IPL system provides a comfortable and easy way to treat a variety of skin pigmentation and vascular lesions. This includes:

Pigmentation

Pigmentation refers to brown or reddish skin blotches and spots. Common examples include age spots and freckles. Usually, these areas of pigmentation are directly related to time outside without proper sun protection.

Vascular lesions

Vascular lesions refer to issues related to the blood vessels. For example, spider veins, port wine stains, facial veins, and rosacea all cause prominent red, purple, or blue areas on the face or body.

What areas can Lumecca IPL treatment cover?

Lumecca can treat any area where you have skin discoloration. The most common treatment areas are:

  • Legs
  • Face
  • Arms
  • Hands
  • Décolletage

Most of these areas are exposed to the sun regularly.

How does Lumecca IPL treatment work?

Lumecca IPL treatment works in two ways. First, the IPL is drawn to spots of dark pigmentation. It pulls the discoloration to the surface of your skin, where your skin can shed those cells over time.

In addition, the IPL heats the walls of problem blood vessels, such as spider veins. This shrinks the blood vessels and cuts off their blood supply. The vein then withers, and you no longer see the prominent color on your skin.

What happens after Lumecca IPL treatment?

After treatment, it’s normal to have slight skin redness and warmth, but these effects usually go away quickly. Your pigmented areas may look darker in the next few days. That’s a sign that the treatment worked and your body is starting to eliminate them. Usually, the pigmented lesions flake off in the next week.

Your vascular lesions may whiten or change color after your treatment, which indicates your blood vessels are starting to change in response to the treatment. Most people see results in about two weeks.

Usually, it takes 1-3 treatment sessions to improve the appearance of pigmented and vascular lesions.

Lumecca IPL can renew and clear your skin within 10 days, with no downtime or discomfort. To learn more about this groundbreaking light-based treatment, call the Brooklyn Aesthetics office or click online scheduling now.
